Wednesday night I went in to St Kilda with some friends from work to see Sarah Blasko at the National Theatre. It was an awesome night!
There wasn't a support act, but we managed to find our own pre-show entertainment...
We got there 30 minutes early, and since it was at the theatre we couldn't go in until the doors opened, so we headed across the road to Maccas. Munching on our chips, we were sitting along the bench at the window watching car after car go through the carpark.
Then...at about 7:45 a small car (from Blue Circle Couriers) pulls in, followed closely by a big white ute. The little car parked, the ute driver stopped behind him, wound down his window and yelled abuse as he walked past and into the restaurant. The courier guy, average height, probably in his mid-40s, slipped past us and headed to the toilets.
Anyway...back to Sarah...
We had great seats (2 rows from the front of the upper section, right in the middle) but apparently there were still quite a number of free seats down the front because after her first song she said, in a rather timid voice, "This is probably against theatre rules, so I'm sorry if it is, but it's feeling kind of lonely down here. Does anyone want to move down the front?"
There was a rush as people from the back hurried down, then the show continued. Sadly for five of those people, two songs later a group came in and had tickets for some of those seats, so they had to move back.
So I guess that kind of sums up the atmosphere...even though it was in the theatre, it was generally pretty relaxed, although the venue were strictly against any photography. I managed to take a few shots, but without the flash they just came out blurry. Here's one, with her the red fuzz in the middle.
As you can kinda see in the pic, there was a small band with her. The group included a double base, violin, flute, tuba, drums, piano and guitar. I think I'd heard most of her songs before hand, so there weren't really any new ones in there. But it's just sooo much better live!!
In the middle of the show, she had a 'special guest', who turned out to be Glenn Richards (the singer from Augie March, I saw a couple of weeks before...) They sung one of his songs, one of hers then a cover (can't remember who it was...) That was pretty cool, although they seemed a little bit awkward together.
Anyway, it was a great performance (nice to have a seat for a change! lol) You can check out her MySpace page to check out some of her songs/clips.
Oh...that reminds me...Her dance moves were.....interesting to say the least. Not only did she look rather unco-ordinated, but the way she positioned her legs (with her feet kind of at right angles to each other, one foot forward the other pointing inwards) really did look painful! She had this strange way of jerking her shoulders as well, and made weird patting/stroking motions with her hands. I guess she was just really into the music lol
So yeah...that was our night out with Sarah Blasko! lol
Bye for now ;)

Well...today was the big day...the end of the holidays...the beginning of semester. I was excited because being week one I thought there would be no tutorials. This meant I'd have a two hour break where I could sit under a tree and finish the Dan Brown book ("Angel's and Demons") I'm reading. But...
One of my two hours was filled with a prac info session, and then the lecturer (who must thing we're actually there to learn...) ran the tute! Never in my three years of uni have I had a tutorial in the first week of semester...what is the world coming to!!
So I went from a two hour break, to five hours straight without a break. And then I didn't get a chance to see the chem lecturer about sorting out my prac time on my timetable - that's a task for tomorrow I suppose.
But, the day wasn't a complete waste of time. I managed to work out how to get an SMS all the way over the ocean to the big US of A - that was pretty cool Chloe! lol
And all the classes seemed to go pretty well. I'm glad to be doing maths again...there's just something about it that gets me excited (yes, I know that's kinda sad...) I've got two maths subjects, and for the second one (operations research) the lecturer's pretty disorganised. I mean...he told us today that he's working on the tute questions and hopes to have them to us by Wednesday, but he mightn't because he's also putting together the lecture notes. He had done a whole 10 slides!! I was late to his lecture, because I didn't know where the theatre was and hadn't got my new diary yet (so I couldn't check the map...) But it didn't really matter because he just wasted the whole hour on boring administrative stuff - we didn't get to see a single mathematic equation :(
Well...that's about it for today. Oh...I got this MP3 player thing a few months ago, and it plays movies. So I've decided I'm gonna read a book on the way in to uni, and watch movies coming out :) Today's film was 'Thank you for smoking' (a recommendation of Prior a month or so ago...) I think it's gonna take three instalments, but was a relaxing way to pass the time.
There was one quote from it that made me laugh - I kind of forgot where I was and actually made a sound. The guy across from me gave me a weird look. Anyway...the main character (Nick) says to his ex-wife's boyfriend (Brad, who's trying to give Nick advice about bringing up his son):
"Brad...I'm his father. You're the guy fucking his mum."
I just loved it! Hehe...anyway, looking forward to part two tomorrow -nods-
One last thing before I go (what a long post!! probably not all that exciting either....) I got this little camera during the holidays, and I'm gonna start carrying it around and posting random snapshots of life on my journal. I figured...what better way to start these 'daily glimpses' that with the little guy who's gonna help me do it!
So here's a pic of the camera to get things started ;)

Well, farewell for now!

Just a quick post so you know I'm still here...lol
Not a lot been happening...holidays almost over :( Dad's having a party for his 50th Birthday tomorrow night, and I've just finished putting together a slideshow. Looks pretty good, if I can say so myself lol Hopefully all goes well tomorrow - these things have a tendency to stuff up on the big day.
Trying to sort out my uni subjects before we go back on Monday...Looks like it's gonna have to wait 'til then though cos there'll be no-one around on the weekend. Ahh well...that's life ;)
Anyway, heading off to bed now - gotta be up at 5:30 for work tomorrow morning -yawns-
Bye for now!

Well...I worked today, where I usually work - BiLo...but it won't be BiLo for much longer :'(
Last night we closed early, and will be opening again on Thursday as a Coles. It wasn't until I went in today to help with the 'Colesification' of BiLo that I realised just how attached I am to the place...I mean, I've been there four and a half years now - since the day we first opened! Watching these outsiders pulling down the branding getting ready for the new Coles signs made something inside ache.
And OMG some people are sooo stupid! They're moving all the stock around, and there are all these immigrant casual workers in there putting it back on the shelves. Here's a recap of a convo between one of the supervisors (I'll call him Chad) and a couple of the imported workers:
"No no no...that's a three pack of baked beans. You're supposed to put the single cans in that spot. See?!" Chad holds out a picture of how the shelf is supposed to look. "And," he went on, "The codes don't match!"
The imports just stare back blankly.
"Where are you guys putting the overstock?" Chad enquired of the two.
"Overstock?" they repeat together.
"Yes. The stock that doesn't fit on the shelf. You're supposed to put it in a box."
More blank expressions.
"And then write the code on the box with a Texta. Have you guys got a Texta?"
One nods, the other shakes his head 'no'.
"Well, what is it?!" Chad asks. "Yes or no?"
From the blank looks he's still getting he wonders if they have any idea what he's talking about.
"This," he says pulling something from his pocket, "is a Texta. So, have you guys got one?"
"Ohhh....no," they reply.
And so, I guess it's seeing people like that making a mess in my BiLo that caused a twinge in my chest...but all will be well.
Can't wait for it all to be finished!! :D

Inspired by a comment on my last post...I decided to investigate just how good Tupperware actually is...
And so....I emptied out our biscuit container, jumped inside and had my brother put the lid on...And let me tell you - they are 100% airtight! I was only in there for a few minutes...but that was long enough to know that no more oxygen was getting in.
Here's a pic just to confirm that this is really based on fact, and I didn't make it up or anything...

| My first post.... |
[Saturday

Well...what a lame title that is...But it's very true - this is my first post! Not really sure what to say....or how this will look....or who's gonna read it....so it's probably going to be short and boring ;)
I'm trying to think what I want to do with this journal, what I want to get out of it...I'm really not sure, so for now I'll just keep going with some random ramblings...
Yesterday was Australia Day, a day when we celebrate our 'Australian-ness', so I went into the city to check out the fireworks and other festivities with some friends from work. After all-you-can-eat at the casino we wandered down the river back to where the fireworks were happening and had a really good view in between three different displays!! Pretty cool stuff!!
Oh...while I'm here - here's a re-enactment of a convo I had with a friend today:
Well I guess that'll do for now - until next time!
